Known Issues:

  • Repeating record timers will fail after the first record time. Update to version 1.6.4 to resolve this issue.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Can anything be done if the radio player is buffering frequently?

You can experience frequent buffering if your network connection doesn't have enough capacity for the stream you're listening to. Try a lower bitrate stream, if available. (The bitrate is the number in the orange oval.) Tap on the Options button (arrow on previous versions) on the Now Playing view, then "Choose stream" to check for alternate streams. You can also try increasing the "Buffer before playing" setting in the Settings application under TuneIn Radio. This may reduce buffering pauses when there is temporary network congestion.

2. I just downloaded the application, and it won't start. What happened?

The application may not start after downloading due to an installation error. Try deleting and re-downloading the application to resolve the problem. This will be a free download as long as you use the same iTunes account used to purchase the application. You can also try restarting your device before re-downloading if that doesn't work (hold down the top button for 5 seconds to turn off and then hold again to restart). If it still doesn't work, send us your device ID (UDID) using the form below. The UDID is found by clicking on the Serial number on the iTunes sync screen when your device is connected. When you click on the Serial, it will change to UDID (a 40 character string). You can then do cntl-c to copy it (or cmd-c on Mac).

3. It's asking me to login but gives an error. What's my username and password?

Account login is optional actually. You may have switched to the Account tab inadvertently. You can switch to the Browse tab by tapping on the Browse button on the bottom row of buttons.

4. How do I stop the application from streaming?

To stop streaming, tap the Stop button (right-most square button) on the Now Playing view. You can also change the "Pause in Background" setting to OFF to disable streaming in the background when audio is stopped. (Settings are found in the main Settings application under TuneIn Radio.)

5. The audio stops when I move the application to the background on my multitasking capable device with iOS 4 installed. Audio also stops when the screen is locked. How do I fix it?

You'll need to restart your device by holding down the top button for 5 seconds and then holding down again to restart.

6. I've already paid for the app but have lost it. How do I download it again for free?

You can download it again using the App Store app. This will be a free download as long as you use the same iTunes account used to purchase it originally.

7. When using the application on my iPod touch, the audio shuts off after 30 minutes. Why is this happening?

When listening with the screen locked, the operating system will often turn off the network connection, which causes the audio to stop. To workaround the problem, leave the screen unlocked and make sure the "Disable auto-lock" setting is enabled in the Settings application under TuneIn Radio.

8. Does the application require an internet connection or is it an FM tuner? How much download data does it use?

The application plays radio stations by accessing audio streams through the internet. So, an internet connection is required. The amount of download data the application uses depends on the bitrate of the stream and can be significant. For example, a 128 kbps stream would use about 60 MB/hour. So, if you don't have an unlmited data plan, monitoring your data usage is very important when using the application.

9. How do I export recordings from the application?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to export recordings to a PC or access them outside of the application.

10. Why can't all stations be played in the background?

For older devices that aren't multitasking capable, the best we can do is to open compatible streams in Safari, which is allowed to run in the background. However, Safari only supports MP3 and AAC format streams. If background play is not available for a station, there may be an alternate stream that is compatible. You can check for alternate streams by tapping on the Options button (arrow on previous versions) and then "Choose stream".

11. Are there instructions for using the Alarm/Record Timer feature?

Yes, instructions are available here.

12. The screen doesn't dim after a certain amount of time like in other applications. Can this be changed?

Yes, go to the main Settings application and select TuneIn Radio towards the bottom of the list. Change the "Disable auto-lock" setting to OFF. This will allow the screen to dim according to your Auto-lock setting.

13. Will there be an iPad version?

Yes, we're planning to release an iPad version in the next few months.

14. Will there be versions for other phones like Android or Blackberry?

TuneIn Radio is now available for Android. However, it doesn't have the recording, time-shifting or alarm features currently. We don't have plans for other platforms at this time.

15. What settings are available?

Information about the settings is available here.

16. How do I delete recordings?

To delete a recording, tap the Edit button on the Recordings tab then the red circle button and then the Delete button. You can also swipe right to get the delete button faster.
